BENEFITS of Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha Lipoic Acid (also known as lipoic acid, thioctic acid, or ALA) is one of the good fatty acids produced in every one of our cells. One of its main functions is to help convert glucose (blood sugar) into energy. About forty years ago, biologists discovered that ALA is also an antioxidant--a powerful substance that combats potentially harmful chemicals called free radicals which may cause heart and liver disease, cancer, cell aging, and many other conditions.

There are other very effective antioxidants, including vitamins C and E. But what's special about ALA is that it is both water and fat soluble. Scientists believe that ALA operates in conjunction with vitamins C and E, and the antioxidant glutathione, recycling them when they're used up. Many studies have been conducted confirming the health benefits of alpha-lipoic acid, including recent findings that ALA offers neuroprotective and possibly cognitive enhancing effects.

Where Can You Find ALA?

ALA is manufactured by the body and is found in small amounts in several foods. These include spinach, broccoli, peas, Brewer's yeast, Brussels sprouts, rice bran, potatoes and organ meats (kidney, heart and liver) . . . more >

Why Take ALA?

Besides taking ALA for its general benefits as an antioxidant, studies have shown that alpha lipoic acid can help with the following conditions:

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
Coronary Heart Disease
Metabolic Syndrome (high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol
Peripheral Neuropathy (caused by diabetes and other conditions, such as Lyme
disease, alcoholism, shingles, thyroid disease and kidney failure)
Diabetes (improving glucose metabolism and helping diabetics utilize insulin better)
Liver Disease
Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer (increasing long-term survival)
Impaired Brain Function (as a treatment for stroke and other brain disorders
involving free radical damage, including Alzheimer's disease)
Effects of Aging (improving blood flow and enhancing immune function, restoring
levels of glutathione, a protective antioxidant and detoxification compound)
Degenerative Diseases (ALA is a strong anti-inflammatory agent)
Glaucoma and Cataracts . . . more >

HERE'S What I Found OUT about ALA

WHAT is ALA ?
ALPHA LIPOIC ACID

IT'S a compound that supports SUGAR METABOLISM -
look it up online - just use the LINKS directly on the right
ALA IS NOT BRAND NEW - in fact
ITS BEEN available since 1950

Why is ALA important ?
It WILL DECREASE your blood glucose levels on REGULAR BASIS,

IF YOU ARE - Type 2 diabetic like me.

allow me to explain my experience---

As a TYPE 2 diabetic for more than 10 years now, I take RX medication daily
500 Mgs Metformin in the AM with Breakfast
1000 Mgs Metformin in the evening with dinner
PLUS 5 mgs of Glyburide twice a day with each meal above

I had been taking Avandia for a number of years until 2007 when I switched to
Januvia, and took that for 2 years until I started the regimen above in 2009.

WE all know about Avandia- no need to say more
With Januvia, I found my fasting levels averaged about 120, but suffered from
HYPO GLYCEMIA episodes quite often with sugar levels at 80 or lower,

and its expensive.

Within 2 weeks of starting ALA - Alpa Lipoic Acid-
600 mgs per capsule TWICE a day with my 2 main meals
,
I got marvelous results in a couple of ways

1. MY AVERAGE Fasting blood glucose readings are NOW CONSISTENTLY UNDER 100

AND
2. I AM NOW able to tolerate BLOOD GLUCOSE levels as low as 70 WITHOUT hypoglycemia
As a DIABETIC taking meds - You MUST be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia :
erratic heart beat - dizziness - confusion - shaky legs - blurred vision- sensitivity to light.
ALL it takes to recover is 2 OUNCES of Orange Juice, wait about 10 minutes & retest.

ALA is NOT expensive as you can see above and as an average size capsule, I have no problem taking with juice or water.

You can find this product with the link to Puritan Pride Web site
just fill in Alpha Lipoic Acid in the search box, and it will take you right there.

Ive been buying from Puritan Pride for several years now, and have always been satisfied with the QUALITY & PRICING of their products over many other sources - Jay

I wouldn't have published this BLOG unless
I HAD PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with ALA,
and Im sure you can tell, I am very pleased with the results

There is no guarantee that YOU will achieve the same results,
but the reports Ive gotten from others is very much the same as mine.
Just TRY one bottle for a month for very little cost & effort.

Check with your doctor of course, but I'm sure they will tell you "not to waste your money". Since they have NO experience with such compounds, and never do they research such things, that's the only answer they can think of. Also, this is NOT a compound that has serious narcotic side effects, such as what you hear on "tv" about advertised meds, nor does it interact with anything else you may be taking. I also take about 12 vitamins & minerals daily including specific herbs to reduce cholesteral levels which is NON existent @ 145 total & 92 ldl.
My doctor says I should be a poster boy for low cholesteral.
Don't let ANYONE, even a medical professional, throw you off track from your own good health.

Heres the rub,
My Doctor says He cannot endorse any product that has not been approved by
the AMA, but he was NOT surprised that my A1C dropped from 7.2 down to 6.4 in just one month. Obviously he was very happy to see such results, even if he did not prescribe the product.

What will YOUR doctor say when you show him YOUR results, after just one month- 60 pills, just one bottle. After taking this for a while, you might find your need for RX pills might end up less than your current dosages. BUT I still prefer to see my FBG under 100 all the time, so Im not making any changes.

Local Vitamin retail shops are offering the same product for $17 to $19 per bottle, SO Buying it here is a NO BRAINER.

Best Wishes & Good Health
Jay
